Due to a teacher only day at Rangitaiki College on Monday 18th August our Year 7 and 8 students won't be attending tech they will be at school instead.

On Monday 25th August, some teachers from our school will be attending NZEI Te Riu Roa paid union meeting.

These teachers are members of NZEI and legally entitled to attend this meeting. They will be leaving school at 1.30pm on Monday 25th August, to attend their paid union meeting which starts at 2pm.

Our school will remain open and the children will be supervised by the remaining staff.

School will finish at 3pm as normal.

This is our fourth time running this fundraiser, and it’s always such a highlight! Not only do you get to enjoy a beautiful garden, but the school also benefits with funds going towards our own gardening projects and school beautification.

Order forms will be sent home with each family on Monday.

Family Photo Fundraiser – Save the Date! 📸

Each sitting costs just $15 and includes a FREE 10" x 13" (253mm x 330mm) print of your family! You’ll also have the opportunity to purchase additional prints if you wish.

This is a wonderful chance to get a beautiful family photo while supporting a great cause. All proceeds will go towards school camps happening later in the year.

Hockey Update
Game day: Saturday 9 August

Edgecumbe faced not only Apanui in Saturdays game but bone chilling conditions. Edgecumbe gave it their all in a tough matchup, scoring a couple of great team goals. Some inspiring running from Daniel Arbuckle (Thornton School) awarded him with player of the day.

This week we had a bye - so got to stay home warm from the cold!!

Unfortunately the team was again short in numbers due to sickness and called in players from the Ministicks team to make up a team.  They fought hard and never gave up against the strong Ohope Orcas who dominated the match.

Again Coach Diane gave the whole team player of the day for  never giving up and giving 100%.

Seussical Jr Rehearsals in Full Swing!
Rehearsals are well under way for our September production of Seussical Jr, and the excitement is building! We've been lucky to have Sam McLeod working with us over the past two weeks, and after just two days with our cast, the progress is amazing.

Our monkeys, elephants, birds, Whos, fish and Things are all bringing their characters to life with energy and enthusiasm. The singing is sounding wonderful, the dancing is looking sharp, and the whole production is starting to come together beautifully.

We can’t wait to share this colourful, musical adventure with you in September!

We still have space in our Recorder Group taught by our music teacher Rachel Hands. If you child would like to join in they will need to purchase a Recorder from school for $20. Please contact the office at kirsten@thornton.school.nz

The Pharmacy Healthy Skin (Kiri Ora) service is FREE 

 

Some pharmacies (chemists) can help your children (aged 2 and over) and adults with free treatments for headlice (kutus), scabies, boils, infected bites, grazes and school sores thanks to funding from Te Whatu Ora.  It is important to treat minor skin infections early to avoid spreading to others or becoming more serious.

Sore throats matter and can lead to rheumatic fever
Rheumatic fever is a disease which causes inflammation, especially of the heart, blood vessels and joints.   If you are Māori, Pacifika or if you have a family history of rheumatic fever you are more at risk of developing rheumatic fever from a sore throat.

If you are high risk and get a sore throat, we recommend your throat is swabbed and treated with antibiotics to prevent rheumatic fever. The antibiotics will help get rid of the bacteria from your throats called Group A strep which can cause rheumatic fever.  We can also swab and treat whānau of high-risk Tamariki with sore throats.
