Interschool Netball

What a fantastic day out for our budding netballers!

The games were both challenging and fun, filled with energy, teamwork, and great sportsmanship. To top it all off, we had the incredible opportunity to meet some of the stars from our very own Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic netball team! A huge thank you to them for coming along and making the day extra special by signing autographs and inspiring our future netball legends.

And of course, a big thank you to our amazing and supportive parents courtside—your encouragement means the world to the players and helps make days like these so memorable!

Interschool Rugby and Rippa

It was a tough day on the field for our full-contact rugby players, who showed incredible resilience in challenging games. Our Rippa Rugby teams enjoyed a fantastic day of fun and sportsmanship. A big thank you to our supportive parents and to all our school teams for their dedication and effort. You represented Thornton with pride and spirit—well done!

Interschool Motorcross

Congratulations to Lara and Lincoln.

Lincoln placed 1st 5-7 in the 50cc trail and 7th 5-7 in the MX 50cc and Lara came first in the under 8 minis.

Edgecumbe Junior Hockey

Edgecumbe Junior Hockey

All players should have received the draw for the rest of the season. If you are uncertain when you are playing, we will post the games every week on our facebook group.

Game day: Saturday 10 May

Year 1 and 2

Edgecumbe had a tough game vs Waiotahe wekas. The teams were very well matched though Edgecumbe were unable to convert their dominance on attack. Daniel Arbuckle was the player of the day for Edgecumbe showing awesome skills, focus and determination throughout the game.

Year 3 and 4

We had a bye this week, so was a rest day for our team.

Year 5 and 6

Diane's team had a good game against a more experienced team. They went down fighting 12-3.

Youth Team

Marie's team met a well coached intermediate side. They never gave up even though they were well beaten. They still came off with smiles on their faces and are determined to improve.

Thornton School Cross Country

12:00pm - 2:45pm

Training has begun at school and all students will compete in our school cross country. For students 8 years old and over they will run based on their ago at 27 April 2025 as this aligns with EBOP Cross Country guidelines.
Students can wear mufti today and can represent their team by wearing their team colour - attached
5 years - 12pm
6 years - 12.15pm
7 years - 12.30pm
8 years - 12.45pm
9 years - 1.10pm
10 years - 1.40pm
11 and 12 years - 2.10pm

9:00am - 2:31pm

For those qualifying students (aged 8 and over) from our Thornton School Cross Country.
Hosted by our school and held at 1299 Manawahe Road, it's a great day out in the hills.
We run a fundraising food stall and would love parent support for the day.
More information will be given out to qualifying students following our school cross country on 30/05/25

Interschool Gymnastics Competition

All Day

Because of the specialised equipment required this event will be open for students currently attending Gymnastics. Routines will be learnt in class and Kirsten will help out at school with groups leading up to the event.

Kirsten will be at the club all day to help supervise students however transport will be required to and from the club.

Dune Planting - At Thornton Beach

8:00am - 12:45pm

Our entire school joins Amy from Coast Care to plant the dunes to protect our coastline.
Our rain off day is 20th August.
We will require help from parents for this day to be a success. More information will come out closer to the event

Seussical the Musical

Our annual whole school production, where we all head into the Little Theatre to perform to local schools and our school whanau.

Seussical, a musical extravaganza, weaves together beloved characters and stories from Dr. Seuss into a fantastical adventure. The story centers on Horton the Elephant, who discovers a speck of dust containing the tiny Whos in Whoville. Horton faces the challenge of protecting the Whos and an abandoned egg left in his care by Mayzie La Bird. Along the way, he and Gertrude McFuzz must overcome adversity and unite in their efforts to save the Whos and restore peace.

More information about the organisation of the show will be given out closer to the time.
